Section 1 Information
Description
In this course, we will discuss the most recent patent laws that have the most significant effects on software innovators, software businesses, and software patent trolls. Students will learn to analyze software-related patents, especially patent claims, to make reasoned judgments with respect to patent infringement and patent validity. This course provides a particular focus on patentable subject matter issues, divided infringement issues, and indefiniteness issues that may arise during this analysis. Students will also learn to make suggestions for improving software patent claims to reduce risks of non-infringement and invalidity while still capturing the core innovation. The course does not require a background in software or patent law. (revised 5/21)
