Rhonda E. de Freitas

Clinical Professor of Law

Professor de Freitas practices family and matrimonial law in the Law Offices of IIT Chicago-Kent with emphases on child custody and visitation issues, complex financial settlements, and collaborative law.

Prior to joining the Chicago-Kent faculty in spring 2008, Professor de Freitas was of counsel at Jenner & Block LLP, where she worked exclusively on family law and matrimonial matters. Her practice included post-divorce litigation, child custody disputes, business valuation and forensic accounting, pre- and post-nuptial agreements, and pro bono child protection cases. From 2004 to 2006, Professor de Freitas dealt with all aspects of divorce law as an associate attorney at Beermann Swerdlove LLP. She also spent three years as a solo practitioner in Northfield, Illinois, concentrating on family law. Professor de Freitas began working in family law as a volunteer attorney for the Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago.

Professor de Freitas graduated from Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 1993. As a law student, she was a member of the Loyola University Chicago Law Journal and competed in the Wagner National Labor and Employment Law Moot Court Competition. She received a B.A. in liberal studies from Florida International University in 1986.
