IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law to host Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Civil Rights Symposium on February 22

"We Are Not Alone" is the theme of an LGBT Civil Rights Symposium hosted by IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law. The program will be held from 3 to 6:15 p.m. on February 22 in the law school's Governor Richard B. Ogilvie Auditorium, 565 West Adams (between Clinton and Jefferson streets) in Chicago. A reception sponsored by the IIT Chicago-Kent Lambdas, an organization of gay and straight law students, will immediately follow the event.

Symposium participants will look at legal issues related to marriage equality and LGBT persons in the workplace.  There will be a panel discussion on sexual orientation employment discrimination, including the emergence of gay vs. gay claims. The program also includes a performance of "Repentance," an original playlet about a gay law student who is considering "going back into the closet" as he enters the job market. "Repentance" was written by playwright and IIT Chicago-Kent Professor Henry H. Perritt, Jr., whose previous works include "You Took Away My Flag," a musical about Kosovo; "Airline Miles"; and "Giving Ground."

Attendees may be eligible for 3 hours of Illinois MCLE credit. Registration for the conference is $75 before February 15. After that date the fee increases to $90.
