IIT Chicago-Kent Invited to Participate in 2013 National Civil Trial Competition
IIT Chicago-Kent students Casey Brown ‘15, Fariz Burhanuddin ‘14, John DiFrancesco ‘14 and Michael Glink ‘14 will represent the law school in the National Civil Trial Competition (NCTC), which will be held November 8 to 10 at Loyola Law School, Los Angeles.
Established in 2002 by Professor Susan Poehls of Loyola Law School, Los Angeles, the NCTC is an invitational tournament that gives students an opportunity to develop and display their skills as successful civil litigators. The competition is cosponsored by Loyola University Law School and the law firms of Greene Broillet & Wheeler LLP and Manatt, Phelps & Phillips and CourtCall® Remote Court Appearances.
IIT Chicago-Kent is one of sixteen law schools invited to participate in the tournament. Teams will be required to conduct opening statements, conduct direct- and cross-examination of witnesses, and make closing arguments as well as argue objections based on the Federal Rules of Evidence.
Team member Casey Brown graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in psychology. Fariz Burhanuddin earned his undergraduate degree in political science and international business from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Teammate John DiFrancesco graduated cum laude from Emmanuel College with a major in political science and history. Teammate Michael Glink received a degree in economics from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
