IIT Chicago-Kent to participate in the Buffalo-Niagara National Mock Trial Competition

IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law third-year students Katerina Alexopoulos, Amanda Bielinski, Edwin Johnson and Betsy Schulzetenberg will represent the law school at the ninth annual Buffalo-Niagara National Mock Trial Competition November 9-12. The prestigious invitational tournament, featuring several of the nation's top-ranked trial teams, is hosted by the SUNY Buffalo Law School and will be held at Buffalo City Court.

The students will argue a hypothetical criminal case in which the defendant is charged with conspiracy and murder. Awards will be presented to the winning team and for the best opening, best direct, best cross, best summation and best advocate.

Team member Katerina Alexopoulos completed her undergraduate education in political science and business institutions at Northwestern University. Teammate Amanda Bielinski earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Alabama with a major in mechanical engineering and a minor in mathematics. Teammate Edwin Johnson completed his undergraduate education in Asian studies at Williams College. Teammate Betsy Schulzetenberg graduated with distinction from the University of Wisconsin–Madison with a degree in history.

IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law is the law school of Illinois Institute of Technology, a private, Ph.D.-granting institution with programs in engineering, psychology, architecture, business, design and law. Chicago-Kent's trial advocacy teams have won numerous individual student honors and regional and national competitions, including the 1988, 2007 and 2008 National Trial Competition championships. In 2008, Chicago-Kent became the first law school to win both the National Trial Competition and the National Moot Court Competition in the same year.
