IIT Chicago-Kent will participate in the ABA Section of Labor and Employment Law's 2015 regional trial advocacy competition
IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law will send two teams to the regional competition of the 12th annual Law Student Trial Advocacy Competition, sponsored by the ABA Section of Labor and Employment Law, November 14 and 15, 2015, in Chicago.
The competition is designed to introduce law students to the challenges and rewards of employment and labor law litigation. Winning teams from eight regions will go on to compete for the national title January 23 to 24, 2016, in New Orleans. (IIT Chicago-Kent won this tournament's regional championship in 2009 and 2010.)
Third-year students Gus Hernandez, John Higgins, Haley Jenkins and Mohini Lal will compete on one team. Third-year students Brittany Barclae, Patrick Brady and Mihail Kostov and second-year student David Springer will comprise the other team.
Team member Gus Hernandez received a degree in economics from the University of Illinois at Chicago. John Higgins completed his undergraduate education at Western Michigan University with a degree in criminal justice. Haley Jenkins completed her undergraduate degree in English from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Mohini Lal earned a degree in social sciences at Shimer College. The team is coached by IIT Chicago-Kent alumni Nicholas Economakos '12, Laurel Martinez '15 and Heather Widell '12 and adjunct professor Lance Northcutt. Economakos and Widell were members of the IIT Chicago-Kent team that won the regional competition in 2010.
Team member Brittany Barclae completed her undergraduate education at Loyola University Chicago with a degree in psychology. Patrick Brady earned a degree in criminal justice from Illinois State University. Mihail Kostov graduated from the University of Georgia with degrees in international affairs, history and German. David Springer completed his undergraduate education at DePaul University with a degree in sociology. The team is coached by IIT Chicago-Kent alumna Erica Suskind '12.
