IIT Chicago-Kent will Participate in the ABA Section of Labor and Employment Law's Regional Competition
The IIT Chicago-Kent team of Devin Bos '15, Bobbie Irvin III '15, Grant Miller '14 and Dana Raymond '14 will represent the law school in the ABA's Section of Labor and Employment Law's 10th annual Law Student Trial Advocacy regional competition November 23 and 24 in Chicago.
The competition is designed to introduce law students to the challenges and rewards of employment and labor litigation. IIT Chicago-Kent won this tournament's regional championship in 2009 and 2010. Winning teams from eight regions will go on to compete for the national title January 25–26, 2014, in San Francisco.
In this year's competition, students will argue Jamie Knight v. Newton Valley Nursing Homes, Inc., an employment discrimination case arising out of an Americans with Disabilities Act claim.
Team member Devin Bos graduated from Rhodes College with a major in political science and a minor in international studies. Teammate Bobbie Irvin III graduated with honors from the University of Arkansas with a major in political science and a minor in African and African-American studies. Teammate Grant Miller completed his undergraduate education at Fairfield University with a major in English and a minor in education. Teammate Dana Raymond graduated with honors from Northwestern University with a double major in political science and legal studies.
The team is coached by IIT Chicago-Kent alumni Matt Casey '09, Marcell Taylor '12, Heather Widell '12 and Brian Wojcicki '09.
Founded in 1888, IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law is the law school of Illinois Institute of Technology, a private, Ph.D.-granting institution with programs in engineering, psychology, architecture, business, design and law. IIT Chicago-Kent's trial advocacy teams have won numerous individual student honors and regional and national competitions, including the 1988, 2007 and 2008 National Trial Competition championships. In 2008, IIT Chicago-Kent became the first law school to win both the National Trial Competition and the National Moot Court Competition in the same year. The most recent U.S. News & World Report ranked IIT Chicago-Kent's trial advocacy program among the top five in the country.
