IIT Chicago-Kent will send two teams to the National Moot Court Competition Region 8 tournament
Two teams from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law will compete in the National Moot Court Competition Region 8 tournament November 10 and 11 at Marquette University Law School in Milwaukee.
The National Moot Court Competition, sponsored by the American College of Trial Lawyers and the New York City Bar Association, is the nation's oldest and largest appellate advocacy competition. Law schools from Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana will compete in the Region 8 tournament. The tournament's top two teams will join 28 teams from 14 other regions for the national finals in New York January 28 through 31, 2013.
Third-year IIT Chicago-Kent students Emily Chase-Sosnoff, Irena Kin and Sam Mustain will compete on one team. The other team will comprise third-year students Gregory Forfa, Patrick Gill and Prava Palacharla. (Both teams competed in the ABA National Appellate Advocacy Regional Competition earlier this year.)
Team member Emily Chase-Sosnoff graduated with honors from the University of Chicago with a bachelor's degree in political science and a minor in environmental studies. Teammate Irena Kin graduated summa cum laude from DePaul University with a bachelor of arts degree in international studies and a minor in Mandarin Chinese. Teammate Sam Mustain completed his undergraduate education at the University of Utah with a double major in economics and political science.
Team member Gregory Forfa graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a bachelor's degree in English with a minor in German. Teammate Patrick Gill completed his undergraduate education at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign with a major in political science and a minor in philosophy. Teammate Prava Palacharla received a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
IIT Chicago-Kent has won the regional championship sixth times in the past seven years. In 2008 and 2009, IIT Chicago-Kent became the first law school in more than 30 years to win back-to-back national championships in the tournament.
IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law is the law school of Illinois Institute of Technology, a private, Ph.D.-granting institution with programs in engineering, science, psychology, architecture, business, design and law. IIT Chicago-Kent's advocacy programs have a tradition of excellence. In 2008, Chicago-Kent became the first law school to win both the National Trial Competition and the National Moot Court Competition in the same year.
