Jared M. Reynolds '15 Wins Race Judicata 2014
Jared M. Reynolds, a third-year student at IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law, won Race Judicata® 2014 on September 4. The 5K Run/Walk benefits Chicago Volunteer Legal Services Foundation, an organization of more than 3,000 attorneys who donate legal services to thousands of low-income Chicagoans. Reynolds, competing in his second consecutive Race Judicata, crossed the finish line with an unofficial time of 16:15, besting his third-place finish of 17:01 in last year's race.
"Overall I was happy with how it went despite it being very hot," said Reynolds, who competed on the cross-country, indoor track, and outdoor track and field teams as an undergraduate at State University of New York (SUNY) at Oneonta. "It was the fastest that I have run the 5K since graduating from college.
At IIT Chicago-Kent, Reynolds is a May 2015 candidate for a J.D. with a certificate in criminal litigation. He currently serves as a clerk for the Cook County Public Defender's Homicide Task Force and the Felony Trial Division. Reynolds has also clerked in the criminal defense section of the Chicago-Kent Law Offices and the Office of the Public Defender in Otsego County, New York. He is a member of the Moot Court Honor Society and the Chicago-Kent Sportfeasors.
Despite a demanding law school schedule, Reynolds competed in the Chicago Half Marathon just two days after his Race Judicata victory. "It was probably one of the best races of my life," he said. "I came in 18th out of 7,838 with a time of 1:14:04 - five minutes and 39 seconds faster than my best time."
"I am feeling strong with a little over a month until the Chicago Marathon," said Reynolds, who also plans to apply to compete in the Boston Marathon.
