In Memoriam: George Domas, Class of 1982

The law school community mourns the recent death of attorney and trial advocacy teacher George Domas '82, a coach for the IIT Chicago-Kent teams that won the National Trial Competition in 2007 and 2008.

A member of IIT Chicago-Kent's first trial ad team, George most recently worked as an administrative law judge in the Illinois Department of Employment Security. In the early 2000s, with more than 20 years' practice behind him, George returned to the law school to teach Trial Advocacy II as an adjunct professor and to volunteer his time coaching several of our trial ad teams.

In 2009, the trial advocacy program established the George Domas Award for Excellence in Coaching and made George the first recipient. The program also conferred an honorary award upon George for exemplary dedication, courage and perseverance over adversity.

George was a remarkable attorney, coach and role model. Indeed he was a source of inspiration and guidance to numerous IIT Chicago-Kent students who went on to establish successful careers in litigation. Our law school, and in particular our trial advocacy program, will benefit for years to come from his outstanding contributions.
