In Memoriam: Jeremiah Marsh

The Chicago-Kent community was saddened by news of the recent death of Jeremiah Marsh, a member of the law school's board of overseers and a partner in the law firm of Ungaretti & Harris.

Raised in Minnesota, Mr. Marsh graduated from Harvard Law School in 1958 and practiced law for several years in Chicago before moving to Washington, D.C., to serve as legislative aide to the newly elected Senator Edward Kennedy.

In a statement published by the Chicago Tribune following Mr. Marsh's death, Senator Kennedy said of him: "He was the 'go-to' man on every issue and one of the ablest people I've ever worked with."

In 1968, Mr. Marsh returned to Chicago as special counsel to newly elected Illinois Governor Richard Ogilvie '49. During his service to Governor Ogilvie, he worked to establish the Illinois income tax and redraft the Illinois Constitution.

Mr. Marsh later returned to the private sector as co-chairman of the law firm of Hopkins & Sutter. He joined Ungaretti & Harris in 2001.

Jeremiah Marsh was an outstanding attorney and public servant. Chicago-Kent is a better institution for his support and oversight.
