Tech for Justice Hackathon and Roundtable on Teaching Tech bring ABA TECHSHOW to Chicago-Kent
Chicago-Kent College of Law at Illinois Tech will host two events relating to the ABA TECHSHOW this month. Over the weekend of March 12 to 13, the free, public Tech for Justice Hackathon aims to bring together lawyers, judges, legal aid workers, technologists, domestic violence experts, activists, entrepreneurs, city and state representatives, business stakeholders, and concerned individuals with a variety of skills to identify and create law practice-based technology solutions to roadblocks in access to justice in the domestic violence context.
The hackathon will focus on three aspects of domestic violence cases:
- legal conflict prevention and escape preparation
- emergency crisis support
- post-crisis support
Mentors, including legal, domestic violence and technology experts, will be present to advise project teams throughout the event.
Judges will include legal aid representatives, domestic violence advocates, domestic violence survivors, community organizers, and justice technology experts. Awards will be given to the top three teams, and prizes ranging from $500 to $1,000 will go to local shelters of the winners' choice.
