“If you want hard-working professors, access to one of the greatest cities in the nation, and a cohort of lovely classmates and friends, there’s no reason not to choose Chicago-Kent College of Law,” says Adrian Ackert ’27.

Ackert has only just finished her second year, but she’s already benefitted from numerous hands-on experiences. She’s completed an internship at the Office of the State Appellate Defender, Second District Office, helped out the Lee County Public Defender’s Office, worked in the Chicago-Kent Criminal Defense Litigation Clinic, and externed for Justice Mary L. Mikva in the First District Appellate Court of Illinois. Now, she is clerking for Cunningham, Meyer & Vedrine in their Chicago office.

“My first legal internship had a significant impact on me,” says Ackert. “It was fascinating to see what my career could look like after graduation. Every subsequent opportunity I’ve had has given me that same feeling.”

Her hands-on experiences have shown her a variety of potential career paths which she is looking forward to continuing to explore.

“I am very passionate about my growth and development as an individual and as a future lawyer,” she says. “I intend to use all that I’ve learned at Chicago-Kent and in my internships to be the best attorney and advocate that I can be.”
Ackert still has one more year of law school to put under her belt before she sits for the Bar, and with the support of Chicago-Kent, she knows she’ll be ready.

“I have had so many professors at C-K who are deeply passionate and knowledgeable about the subjects they teach, which makes a world of difference in keeping students engaged,” she says. “I have felt supported, all the way through, by my professors and classmates, whose goal is that every one of us succeeds.”
