Externship for the Judges in Seventh Judicial Circuit

The judges of the Seventh Judicial Circuit in Sangamon County are in need of a law student(s) to conduct legal research and assist in writing memorandums. Sangamon County is one of six counties in the Seventh Judicial Circuit. The counties include Greene, Jersey, Macoupin, Morgan, Sangamon and Scott. This position is for Sangamon County only. The position is open to 2L or 3L students.
The internship would primarily consist of conducting legal research by Westlaw and analysis in areas relevant to the particular area of law for cases assigned to individual judges. This position supports the judges to deliver value to the profession by focusing on speed of delivery, pragmatic application of law, and well-reasoned, written opinions on the research results. Should there be any interest from the student, s/he may be able to attend court proceedings remotely and in person.
This is a great opportunity to grow your skills in an interesting industry. This position would be a remote position conducted by Zoom, telephone and email. The position also allows for in person attendance if one's schedule allows. The amount of time for the position would depend on the workload of the judges, all the while be cognizant of the student's school schedule. This is an unpaid position. Classroom credit can be requested, but the decision to allow credit is left solely to the school.

and not conflict with their studies.

The current duration would be for the 2024 summer semester, commencing after final exams or at an agreed upon date.
