IIT Chicago-Kent advances to the National Moot Court Competition finals
Emily Chase-Sosnoff, Irena Kin and Sam Mustain, third-year students at IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law, have advanced to the National Moot Court Competition as finalists in the regional tournament held November 10 and 11 at Marquette University Law School in Milwaukee. As the region's top two teams, IIT Chicago-Kent and Loyola University Chicago School of Law will join 28 teams from 14 other regions for the national finals in New York January 28 through 31, 2013.
The National Moot Court Competition, sponsored by the American College of Trial Lawyers and the New York City Bar Association, is the nation's oldest and largest appellate advocacy competition. Law schools from Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana competed in the Region 8 tournament.
This is the seventh time in eight years that IIT Chicago-Kent has earned a berth in the national championship competition. In 2008 and 2009, IIT Chicago-Kent became the first law school in more than 30 years to win back-to-back national championships in the tournament.
IIT Chicago-Kent team member Emily Chase-Sosnoff graduated with honors from the University of Chicago with a bachelor's degree in political science and a minor in environmental studies. Teammate Irena Kin graduated summa cum laude from DePaul University with a bachelor of arts degree in international studies and a minor in Mandarin Chinese. Teammate Sam Mustain completed his undergraduate education at the University of Utah with a double major in economics and political science. The team of Chase-Sosnoff, Kin and Mustain competed in the ABA National Appellate Advocacy Regional Competition in March 2012, with Chase-Sosnoff winning individual honors as that tournament's Best Oral Advocate.
Founded in 1888, IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law is celebrating "125 years of distinctive legal education." IIT Chicago-Kent is the law school of Illinois Institute of Technology, a private, Ph.D.-granting institution with programs in engineering, psychology, architecture, business, design and law. IIT Chicago-Kent is the only law school ever to win the National Trial Competition and the National Moot Court Competition in the same year (2008), and the first school in more than 30 years to win the National Moot Court Competition in two consecutive years (2008 and 2009).
