IIT Chicago-Kent will send two teams to the National Veterans Law Moot Court Competition in Washington, D.C.
Two teams from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law will compete in the 6th annual National Veterans Law Moot Court Competition November 15 to 16 at George Washington University Law School and the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims in Washington, D.C.
Established in 2009, the National Veterans Law Moot Court Competition is the nation's premier moot court competition focusing on veterans law. The tournament is co-sponsored by the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims Bar Association and the George Washington University Law School Moot Court Board.
IIT Chicago-Kent participated in the competition for the first time last year. Teammates Dustin Karrison ‘14 and Alex Stephens ‘14 reached the final four with Karrison winning individual honors as the tournament's best oral advocate.
This year, IIT Chicago-Kent will be represented on one team by third-year students Michael Albert and Ryan Hanneken. Lyal Fox III and Jared Reynolds, also third-year students, will comprise the other team.
Team member Michael Albert majored in political science at Indiana University. Teammate Ryan Hanneken earned a degree in political science and government from Miami University.
Team member Lyal Fox III graduated from Iowa University with a degree in English and theater arts. Teammate Jared Reynolds graduated summa cum laude from the State University of New York at Oneonta with a degree in sociology.

Teams in IIT Chicago-Kent's Ilana Diamond Rovner Program in Appellate Advocacy have won numerous individual student honors and regional and national competitions. In 2008, IIT Chicago-Kent became the first law school to win both the National Trial Competition and the National Moot Court Competition in the same year. In 2009, IIT Chicago-Kent successfully defended its championship in the National Moot Court Competition.
