IIT Chicago-Kent's Institute for the Supreme Court of the United States to release materials on upcoming Health Care Reform Act cases

IIT Chicago-Kent's Institute for the Supreme Court of the United States (ISCOTUS) has produced materials related to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act to coincide with the U.S. Supreme Court's unprecedented six-hour hearing of challenges to the health care reform law on March 26 to 28. The materials are designed to increase public information and understanding of the Court and the issues involved in these cases.

"The highlight of our materials is a series of videos explaining the issues, geared to a general audience," said IIT Chicago-Kent professor and ISCOTUS director Carolyn Shapiro. "We work in tandem with the Oyez Project to generate accessible content for a wide audience."

According to Shapiro, the videos will appear in the order in which the Supreme Court will consider the issues: the Anti-Injunction Act, the minimum wage provision, severability, and the states' Medicaid requirement. The videos can be viewed from the web at www.oyeztoday.org or from the free OyezToday iPhone/iPad app.

"We will also include key documents from the Supreme Court—including all the merits and amici briefs, a summary of where the justices stand on the big issues, and audio and transcripts from the cases argued in the Courts of Appeals prior to review by the Supreme Court," said Jerry Goldman, director of the Oyez Project.

Established in 2011, the Institute for the Supreme Court of the United States combines the law school's core strengths: cutting-edge legal scholarship and technological innovation. Its Oyez Project leverages information technology to make materials related to the U.S. Supreme Court instantly accessible around the world. The website, www.oyez.org, which has tens of thousands of visitors a day, provides immediate access to nearly 10,000 hours of courtroom audio and is adding merits briefs and amici briefs to its already comprehensive database.
