IIT Chicago-Kent's third U.S. Supreme Court IP Review is September 13
U.S. Register of Copyrights Maria Pallante will discuss "New Initiatives of the Copyright Office"
The Honorable Maria Pallante, U.S. Register of Copyrights and director of the Copyright Office, will speak at IIT Chicago-Kent's third annual U.S. Supreme Court Intellectual Property Review (SCIPR) addressing the topic "New Initiatives of the Copyright Office." Register Pallante will also participate in a panel discussion on Golan v. Holder.
The forums are part of the one-day conference, which begins at 9 a.m. on September 13. The conference will be held at the law school, 565 West Adams Street (between Clinton and Jefferson streets) in Chicago. A reception will immediately follow the conference.
The annual SCIPR conference draws leading members of the U.S. Supreme Court bar, intellectual property practice, academia, and the judiciary. "IIT Chicago-Kent's U.S. Supreme Court IP Review is the only conference in the country focused exclusively on intellectual property law," said Professor Edward Lee, director of IIT Chicago-Kent's Program in Intellectual Property Law. "Our schedule includes many of the nation's top IP scholars and Supreme Court litigators."
Participants in this year's conference will review Supreme Court IP cases decided in the 2011–12 term-Kappos v. Hyatt; Caraco Pharmaceutical Laboratories, LTD. v. Novo Nordisk A/S; Mayo Collaborative Serv. v. Prometheus Labs., Inc.; and Golan v. Holder. Additional sessions will examine cert. petitions to watch and preview cases on the docket for the 2012–13 term, including Kirtsaeng v. John Wiley & Sons and Already LLC v. Nike, Inc.
The Honorable Paul S. Grewal, magistrate of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, will participate in a panel discussion on Mayo with Duke University Law School professor Arti Rai and Lori B. Andrews, IIT Chicago-Kent distinguished professor of law and director of the Institute for Science, Law and Technology.
