Stephanie Wolf '17 receives an American Bankruptcy Institute Medal of Excellence

Stephanie Wolf '17 has been awarded a Medal of Excellence from the American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI) for outstanding performance in her bankruptcy coursework and for her membership in the Chicago-Kent team that submitted the highest-ranked U.S. brief at the 2017 Ian Fletcher International Insolvency Law Moot.

The Medal of Excellence program was developed by Christopher F. Graham of the New York law firm of Thatcher Proffitt & Wood and inaugurated by the ABI in 1997. Participating law schools may nominate the student with the highest grade in a bankruptcy course or other area of bankruptcy scholarship for the award.

"Stephanie is a leading light in an outstanding group of students who have helped to put Chicago-Kent on the map for bankruptcy law and a very deserving recipient of the ABI Medal," said Professor Adrian Walters, who nominated Wolf for the award. "She has excelled in the classroom in Bankruptcy Law and International Bankruptcy Law and also contributed significantly to our success in the Fletcher Moot competition. It has been a pleasure to witness her grow in confidence as a young lawyer during her 2L and 3L years."

Wolf and her Chicago-Kent teammates—Maxwell Eichenberger '17, Jeffrey Goldberg '17 and Jeffrey Michalik '17—were the only law school team in the United States to qualify for the oral rounds of the 2017 Ian Fletcher International Insolvency Law Moot in Sydney, Australia. The team advanced on the strength of their brief, which tested their knowledge of international insolvency issues as well as their legal research and writing skills. Eichenberger and Michalik traveled to Australia to represent the team and placed in the top four worldwide.

"I am very honored and humbled to receive this award. My work in bankruptcy law, both in the classroom and with the Fletcher Moot competition, has been a highlight of my law school career," said Wolf. "Professor Walters' passion and spirit fostered my interest in bankruptcy law, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunities to have him as a professor and mentor."

Wolf graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Madison with a degree in legal studies and political science. She will graduate from Chicago-Kent in May 2017 with a J.D. degree and a J.D. Certificate in Business Law. In spring 2016, she received a CALI Award-which honors the highest grade awarded in a course-for her performance in Bankruptcy. Wolf is a member of the law school's Corporate Law Society and has clerked for various local law firms, including Peck Ritchey LLC and Levin & Perconti.
