Illinois Supreme Court Rule 711

A student who has successfully completed 44 credit hours (50 percent of the credit hours required for graduation) may obtain an Illinois Supreme Court Rule 711 License to practice law under the terms and conditions set forth in the Rule. Students may not apply for the license until they have received grades in courses totaling 44 credit hours; it is not sufficient that you have taken final exams in courses totaling 44 credit hours; the grades must be received and recorded.

Application forms are available through the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts website. Students should complete the form (including the student's signature and the supervising attorney's signature) and return it to Aziza Mabrey-Wakefield in the Office of Academic Affairs in office 320C. After we receive the form, the law school reviews student records, and the Dean certifies the student's eligibility for a Rule 711 license. At this point, we email the application to the the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts, which issues the license and mails it to the student.
