Associate Clinical Professor Named NCJI Academic Fellow

Chicago-Kent College of Law Associate Clinical Professor Jamie Franklin has been selected as an academic fellow of the National Civil Justice Institute.

Franklin joined the Chicago-Kent faculty in August 2020 as supervising attorney of the C-K Law Group’s Civil Litigation Clinic. Her practice areas include employment discrimination and retaliation, wage and hour law, qui tam (False Claims Act) litigation, class actions, and other complex litigation on behalf of plaintiffs.

Franklin, who says she is “honored” for the recognition, joins 80 academics from across the United States who have been selected to keep the organization apprised of the latest legal trends and to assist it in maintaining a dialogue with the country's courts and law schools. Franklin joins Distinguished Professor Emeritus Richard W. Wright and Professor Nancy S. Marder as fellows of the institute.

The National Civil Justice Institute is a national legal think tank created by pioneering members of the trial bar, and it is dedicated to ensuring access to justice for ordinary citizens. Through its activities, the institute works to give lawyers, judges, legal educators, and the public a balanced view of the issues affecting the U.S. civil justice system.

From 2011 to 2020, Franklin owned and operated the Franklin Law Firm in Chicago. The firm sought to provide the highest level of legal representation to those who were historically outmaneuvered in the legal arena.

Currently, Franklin is representing a female professor fired by Moody Bible Institute in a case that could end up in front of the U.S. Supreme Court. She’s also part of a legal team representing employees in a class-action lawsuit against United Airlines over airline retirement policies.
