Praxis Curriculum and Requirements

To earn the Praxis certificate, students will fulfill the following:

  1. Complete 24 credits of experiential or skills-based course work, including at least one “live client” clinic or externship. Chicago-Kent currently offers a comprehensive curriculum of experiential courses and for-credit activities that count toward the Praxis Certificate credit requirement.
  2. Complete a series of “scorecard” self-assessments evaluating how your experiential course work and activities are helping you to develop skills in “core competencies” of a successful practicing attorney. You must complete these assessments in each semester you are enrolled in the program, and you will meet with the program director at least once to discuss your progress.
  3. Attend one “Praxis” workshop a semester aimed at enhancing career and business development skills, and create a professional online portfolio/profile.
  4. Complete the course Practice and Professionalism, which concentrates on the business of law practice and practice management, covering economic modeling, client development, and technology management. (Requests for exceptions to this requirement will be considered on a case-by-case basis and should be directed to Jenifer Robbins, the program director.)
