Summer Start

We are pleased to offer students who are admitted to the fall entering class the option to begin their law school studies early by taking Criminal Law during the summer term. The class contains a mixed enrollment of both day and evening division students, and meets two nights per week from 6–8 p.m. beginning on May 20, 2024.

Full-time day division students in the first year typically take 16 credit hours in the fall semester and 14–16 credit hours in the spring semester. Full-time students who opt to enroll in the summer Criminal Law course will take three credit hours during the summer 2024 term, 13 credit hours during the fall 2024 semester, and 14–16 credit hours during the spring 2025 semester.

Part-time evening division students in the first year typically take 11 credit hours in the fall semester and 11 credit hours in the spring semester. Part-time evening students who opt to enroll in the summer Criminal Law course will take three credit hours during the summer 2024 term, 8 credit hours during the fall 2024 semester, and 11 credit hours during the spring 2025 semester.

Part-time day division students in the first year typically take 11 credit hours in the fall semester and 12 credit hours in the spring semester. Part-time day students who opt to enroll in the summer Criminal Law course will take three credit hours during the summer 2024 term, eight credit hours during the fall 2024 semester, and 12 credit hours during the spring 2025 semester.

To register for the summer 2024 start, please follow the instructions below. If you do not wish to begin in the summer and plan to follow the traditional fall schedule, you do not need to do anything at this time. You will receive registration materials for the traditional fall schedule in late June. Please note that the law school reserves the right to cancel courses due to insufficient enrollment.

Summer 2024 Registration Process

If you wish to take advantage of the summer start, please complete the following steps:

  1. Complete the Summer Start Request Form to let us know that you would like to enroll in Criminal Law this summer. We will change your enrollment term to Summer 2024 and send you an email with registration instructions. Please note: Registration instructions will not be available until early April.
     
  2. Register online through your Illinois Tech Portal by following the registration instructions sent to you by email. Please note that you are not permitted to register for any other law school courses during the summer 2024 term. Registration for the summer term will take place in mid-April (dates TBA). After the end of the initial registration period, requests for the summer Criminal Law course will be processed on a space-available basis.
     
  3. Submit your full discounted tuition deposit of $600 by your first deposit deadline. (View deposit instructions.)

Tuition and Tuition Payments

First-year students who enter in 2024 will pay a guaranteed tuition rate of $1,795 per credit hour. The tuition charges for the first academic year are equivalent regardless of whether you follow the traditional schedule or opt for the summer start. Tuition charges will vary each term depending upon course selections and total credit hours.
